Panamint Annie:
Death Valley Legend

Debbie Cobb, great-granddaughter of the wild woman herself, hopes to put together a biography about Annie. Born Mary Elizabeth White in Boston, she told tales of running from arranged marriages, running whiskey across the Canadian border, cooking for ranches and truck driving before finally “settling down” in the death valley region. Annie gained her moniker prospecting for silver in the Panamint hills and lived up to it as she raised children in mining camps, built her own shack, and even had a brief ownership in a local legendary mine and ghost town.

This form is to collect stories from locals and those who knew Annie. The author, herself, was born in Tonopah a full 12 years after Annie’s death.
